Retriever Titles:
What Do These Letters Mean?
FC and
AFC titles are reserved for only the best retrievers as they
can only be earned by WINNING through competition. It is
estimated that less than 1% of all competing retrievers have
earned the FC/AFC titles.
NFC
- National Field Champion -
This
title is awarded once yearly to the dog that wins the National
Open. To qualify for a National, a dog must WIN an Open and
earn an additional 2 points during the qualifying period.
NAFC
- National Amateur Field Champion -
This
title is awarded once yearly to the dog that wins the National
Amateur. This competition is much like the National Open
except that all handlers are Amateurs. To qualify for a
National Amateur, a dog must WIN an Amateur and earn an
additional 2 points during the qualifying period. A dog may
also earn qualifying points towards the National Amateur if
handled by an Amateur in an Open stake.
FC
- Field Champion -
This
title is awarded to dogs that have won an Open at a licensed
field trial and have acquired 5 additional Open points.
AFC
- Amateur Field Champion -
This title is earned as above
(FC) when handled by an amateur or by winning an Amateur stake
at a field trial and acquiring 10 additional Amateur points.
An Amateur who places in an Open stake earns points towards
both the FC and AFC titles. |
